National Apprenticeships Week
National Apprenticeships Week 2012
British Gas opens its doors to a better future for apprentices a little wider next week, to mark the start of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW). Every year, we train over 1,000 apprentices through our six Academies and they're fundamental to our continued growth - so it's only natural that we help to celebrate the UK's world-class apprenticeship schemes and traineeships. On this page you will be able to read real stories from our apprentices and find out what their experiences have been. If you are interested in finding out if we have any vacancies available in your area then please go to the jobs link on the right hand side of this page.
Phil Bentley, Managing Director, British Gas, said:
"Our people and their skills are fundamental to the great service we give our customers - and the overall success of British Gas. This is why we invest over £25m each year in training and development. At our six award-winning British Gas Energy Academies we train more than 1,000 gas engineers, smart meter installers, insulation fitters, solar panel installers and energy experts every year. We are the largest single trainer and employer of domestic gas engineers in Britain, and we're recruiting another 500 apprentice engineers in 2011 - and that's in addition to the 2,100 jobs and trainee positions we're creating across the UK this year."
Claire Doonan, Head of Field Resourcing, British Gas, said:
"An apprenticeship really is an excellent place to start your career with British Gas. Many of our senior managers started as apprentices and then developed and progressed through the company. I myself started as a Call Centre agent in 2003 and have had the opportunity to complete many different roles throughout my career with British Gas to date."
Angela Williams, Human Resources Director, British Gas, said:
"British Gas is a company with a great history and a great future. Each year we spend over £25m on our apprentices and trainees who are passionate about delivering excellent customer service and who represent our diverse customer base within the UK. We invest in talented people of all ages and by developing them they can play a key role in building trust for our customers and growing British Gas, as Britain emerges from the current economic climate."
