Qualified Electrician

Job outline

The Electrician role is a field-based role. With the minimum of supervision and a clear focus on customer awareness and the commercial aims of British Gas, Electricians carry out complex wiring work and fault finding, including installation and repairs to wiring systems and central heating wiring. This is done within customers’ premises to the highest standards of quality and safety, ensuring efficiency, cost effectiveness and a high level of customer satisfaction.

Electricians will:

  • Positively promote British Gas and its products to increase customer awareness and increase the profitability of the business
  • Provide customers with sound and professional advice on their electrical installations
  • Carry out surveys and prepare estimates to ensure all opportunities are taken to create new business and increase revenue and profitability for British Gas
  • Operate computerised British Gas systems to retrieve work, order parts, replenish stock, update records and view customer information
  • Deal positively with customer complaints, speedily resolving these in the most cost effective way while ensuring that high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained
  • As part of a team, play a pro-active role in achieving personal and group targets. The jobholder will also need to effectively communicate ideas, views and initiatives with team members and Service Managers and other Technical Staff within their area
  • In the process of undertaking work, clarify customer requirements and ensure they are kept informed while work is in progress and on completion. If the work cannot be completed on the first visit the Electrician will agree and plan subsequent visits
  • Maintain good customer relations at all times
  • Maintain good working relations and communicate regularly with operations centre team about workload issues etc.

  • Maintained customer satisfaction levels
  • Maintained minimum service delivery levels in line with productivity targets and number of return visits

Requirements

You must have the following as a minimum:

  • The ability to demonstrate current practical experience
  • City & Guilds 2360 electrical installation theory practice Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent
  • City & Guilds 2381 – B.S. 7671 IEE Wiring regulations electrical installation
  • Hold a current full manual driving licence valid for use within the UK

The person

  • You will have excellent communication skills and bundles of enthusiasm
  • You must be self-reliant and responsible and able to demonstrate pride and effort in anything you undertake
  • You will operate at the sharp end of a massive sales, administration and logistics network to meet our customers’ needs
  • As the public face of British Gas, you will need to present the company’s world-class image at all times, through the quality of your work and the way you deal with customers and the public at large
